I. Introduction

Server power supply refers to the power supply (POWER) used on the server. Like PC power supply, it is a switching power supply, which refers to a power supply that can convert alternating current into direct current required by the server.

Server power supplies can be divided into ATX power supplies and SSI power supplies according to standards. The ATX standard is more commonly used and is mainly used in desktop computers, workstations and low-end servers; while the SSI standard was developed with the development of server technology and is suitable for rack-mounted servers of all levels.

2. Product application and working principle

Server power supplies are mainly used in data center scenarios, such as power supply for IT equipment such as servers, storage and switches. Server power supply is the starting point and destination of the construction of the entire data center power supply and distribution system. Fully understanding the capacity, redundancy methods, cooling requirements, energy efficiency design and other indicators of server power supply is the hardware foundation for building and deploying data centers.

The basic working principle of the server power supply is to convert the input alternating current into effective direct current and provide it to the computer system or other network equipment. Specifically, a server power supply consists of three main parts: rectifier, filter, and voltage regulator. A rectifier converts alternating current into pulsed direct current, which produces some high-frequency disturbance (noise). The filter then removes this noise, making the output signal smoother. Finally, the voltage regulator ensures that the output signal has the required voltage and current stability.

4. Selection recommendations

For PFC and full-bridge LLC circuits, it is recommended to use Reasunos Semiconductor’s superjunction MOS series. It can effectively improve PFC power factor correction, reduce electromagnetic interference, reduce energy loss and voltage fluctuations to ensure efficient and stable power output. Its advantages are as follows:

Extremely low gate charge (Qg) greatly improves system efficiency;

Extremely low Rdson reduces device temperature rise;

The built-in FRD has excellent reverse recovery characteristics, which is suitable for multi-tube applications and improves system reliability.

The power supply in the DC/DC synchronous rectification SR line that has been stepped down by the transformer will be synchronously rectified through two MOS tubes. Taking the Reasunos Semiconductor model RS60N130G as an example, the MOS withstand voltage is 60V and the on-resistance is 2.1mΩ. It can withstand a maximum on-current of up to 130A in the on-state, providing sufficient margin for the reduced power supply. The ORing position generally uses 30V/40V low-voltage MOS. It is recommended to use the Reasunos Semiconductor low-voltage MOS series.
